BORDERS MP John Lamont has expressed his disappointment after being sacked as shadow Scottish secretary.
The Berwickshire, Roxburgh and Selkirk MP had served in the role since the Conservatives general election defeat in July.
New Tory leader Kemi Badenoch has instead appointed West Aberdeenshire and Kincardine MP Andrew Bowie to the role.
Mr Lamont appears to have paid the price for backing Robert Jenrick in the Conservative leadership race. Mr Bowie had expressed his support for Badenoch.
“I’m disappointed not to be continuing in my role as shadow secretary of state for Scotland – a job that I loved,” Mr Lamont posted on X, formerly Twitter, adding: “I wish my successor well. I will continue to work from the backbenches standing up for the Scottish Borders and to hold both the Labour & SNP governments to account.”
