THE council has apologised after food waste collections were missed across streets in Peebles.

Disruption today (Friday, October 11) is the latest in a list of issues this week.

Scottish Borders Council (SBC) said that it was unable to carry out collections in Innerleithen Road; the Peebles Hydro area; Eastgate; High Street; Tweed Green; the Walkerhaugh area; Bridgegate; the Northgate area; Venlaw Quarry Road; Venlaw High Road; the Edinburgh Road area; Cross Burn Farm Road; Dalatho Crescent; Langside Drive; Standalane Area; Kingsland Square; North Street; North Place; George Place; George Street; Dovecote Road; the Damdale area; and Cuddyside.

Residents and trade waste customers have been told to remove their bin from the collection point and put it back out on the next scheduled pick-up day.

Areas in rural Peeblesshire experienced problems earlier in the week.

Properties in Blyth Bridge, Baddinsgill, Dolphinton and Romano Bridge were missed due to shortages.

On Thursday, houses in Galashiels were impacted.

Collections in the Melrose Road, High Buckholmside, Balmoral Street and Wood Street areas were not completed.

Earlier in the week residents in Tweedbank, Langlee, Melrose Gait, McQueens Gardens and Coopersknowe Crescent were left frustrated by the issues.

Yarrowford, Cappercleuch, Ettrickbridge and the surrounding rural areas were also missed.

On missed collections, an SBC spokesperson said: “We will make every effort to return for your bin but there may be occasions when we are unable to do so.

“In this instance we will collect extra waste on your next scheduled collection day.

“Present the extra waste in bags at the side of your wheeled bin. We cannot accept recycling presented in black bags.”
