A MUCH-MISSED café could soon be back on the menu at a vital Borders community complex.

Tenders are being invited to reopen and run the café at Burnfoot Community Hub.

Both the café and soft play within the facility are now inviting tenders from interested parties to operate them.

Burnfoot Community Hub is at the heart of the community it serves.

And there was constellation in autumn last year when it was announced that nine jobs were being axed and the closure of its café was confirmed.

The hub provides a soft-play, a community garden, a food share facility and a function room.

It also stages cooking workshops, kids’ parties, community events and much more.

But escalating utility bills led to the centre’s closure as the result of significant financial pressures.

The hub later reopened as talks between Burnfoot Community Futures (BCF), the charity which owns and manages the building, South of Scotland Enterprise (SOSE) and Scottish Borders Council continued in a bid to find a positive resolution to the crisis.

There followed a lifeline after Hawick Common Good Fund Sub-Committee approved a funding application for £10,000 – allowing the hub to continue to operate whilst work was taken forward to put in place a financially sustainable business model and develop associated future plans.

Now there are hopes for the imminent reopening of the café and play area.

A Burnfoot Community Futures spokesperson said: “We are excited to announce that our café and soft play area within the Burnfoot Community Hub is now available for tender.

“Tender packs are available upon request for interested parties. To find out more information or to request tender pack please contact carly@burnfootcf.org."

The closing date for formal proposals to be submitted is 3pm on Thursday, October 20.
