A JEDBURGH man who admitted possession of a knife in his vehicle has been ordered to carry out 70 hours of unpaid work at the town’s sheriff court.

Fifty-two-year-old Jonathan McGeown, of Howden Drive, also pleaded guilty to being found in possession of cannabis when his vehicle was stopped on the A698 road on April 24.

Prosecutor India McLean said police were first alerted at 7.30am when a member of the public became concerned at the nature of his driving.

The vehicle was traced and officers could smell cannabis coming from the car. A small amount of cannabis was recovered.

A sheaf knife was also found in the car.

McGeown admitted it was his own “stupidity” that the knife was still in the vehicle.

He had purchased it for £20 but recognised its value and planned to sell it for £50.
