A HAWICK man who made threatening phone calls to his former partner’s father has been fined £200 at Jedburgh Sheriff Court.

Twenty-nine-year-old Sean Gentleman pleaded guilty to the offence which happened at his Hillend drive home on July 30.

He admitted sending messages which were grossly offensive, uttering threats of violence and also derogatory remarks.

Prosecutor India McLean said the time of the offence was 4.12am when the man’s phone was ringing.

She explained: “He was shouting and swearing and calling him names. He challenged him to fight with him.

“The man hung up but the accused repeatedly phoned again.

“There were 27 phone calls and eventually the police were contacted.”

Defence lawyer Ross Dow said his client was responding to messages and threats which had been made to him.

But he admitted Gentleman had been drinking at the time but now wanted to move on.

In addition to the fine and £10 victim surcharge, a two years Non-Harassment Order was imposed preventing him from having any contact with his former partner’s father.
