A PUBLIC plea has been issued by the founders of a theatre project hoping to unite youngsters in Peebles.

New organisation Peebles Youth Theatre will offer a range of workshops and events that provide young people with the opportunity to learn new theatre and life skills.

It will initially run as a pilot project until December 2025.

It is expected to provide opportunities for around 50 young people and there will be no cost for participation.

A spokesperson said: “This project aims to connect young people more with their local community, not only by performing plays and musicals, but through involvement in researching rehearsal and performance space, connecting with professionals at workshops and taking part in the governance and management of the group.

"We are also connecting with other groups to increase awareness of diversity and protected characteristics and aim to support the young people to manage the budget and source equipment, props and costumes to develop understanding of income and expenditure.”

A plea has been issued to attend a meeting on Monday (August 26) at 7pm in the Masonic Hall, Peebles.

The group will share its progress so far and present the plans for the next few months.
