TENS of motorcyclists have been stopped around the Borders as part of a summer safety campaign.

Police officers carried out high visibility road checks and patrols in unmarked vehicles across the region over the past week.

During that time 180 bikers were given advice on motorcycle safety.

A number of offences were identified during the checks, according to police.

Police Inspector Ross Drummond said: “We received positive interaction from the majority of motorcyclists who were enjoying days out safely on our roads.

“There were several offences detected during these dedicated patrols, namely two riders were charged with speeding and issued with fixed penalty notices; one rider was charged for failing to have an MOT and will be reported to the Procurator Fiscal; and two riders were charged in connection with riding carelessly and dangerously and both will be reported to the Procurator Fiscal.

“We will continue to focus on our routes for the remainder of the summer months and we encourage all road users to enjoy the roads responsibly so everyone can arrive home safely at the end of their day.”
