Scottish Government's housing minister has visited a new development in Hawick.

Paul McLennan's visit to Fairhurst Drive was part of the launch for the South of Scotland Housing Action Plan.

The plan, initiated by the South of Scotland Regional Economic Partnership (REP), aims to tackle the region's need for more varied housing opportunities.

The JR Group, an established construction firm based in Paisley, is behind the Fairhurst Drive development, which features 12 new homes for the Scottish Borders Housing Association (SBHA).

Julia Mulloy, chief executive of SBHA and member of the Strategic Action Group on Housing, said: "The Housing Action Plan reflects the vital role that housing plays in a successful economy.

"Our ongoing projects in Burnfoot and other locations, exemplify our dedication to improving housing availability and quality in the south of Scotland."

The Fairhurst Drive site will include one- and two-bedroom cottage flats featuring accessible designs, as well as two- and three-bedroom family homes.

Andrew Dallas, project director of The JR Group, said: "It is great to see the Action Plan launched to help bring more high quality, sustainable homes to the area.

"It is something we are very passionate about and therefore we are delighted to help SBHA deliver.

"During the projects, we have called on the expertise of the local area, prioritising working with local suppliers, subcontractors and businesses."

Other features of the Fairhurst Drive development include homes made to suit different housing needs, ensuring inclusivity within the community.

Construction and development of the Fairhurst Drive and neighbouring Leisham Drive will continue until early 2025.
