A DOCTOR who admitted careless driving on the A68 has been fined £300 at Selkirk Sheriff Court.
Osama Elgazaar, who is 31, pleaded guilty to overtaking other road users when it was unsafe to do so on April 18, swerving and driving on the wrong side of the road, and forcing other drivers to take evasive action to avoid a collision.
The court heard he travelled most days from his Edinburgh home to work at Borders General Hospital.
He was initially charged with dangerous driving but pleaded guilty to the lesser charge of careless driving.
Sheriff Ian Anderson told the doctor that overtaking in those circumstances may have saved one or two minutes but urged him to take more care.
In addition to the fine, four penalty points were added to his licence.
