FINES totalling £760 have been imposed on a Jedburgh man at the town’s sheriff court after he threatened police officers when accused of motoring offences.

Gary Scott, 38, pleaded guilty to driving a car with no insurance and refused to provide samples for alcohol and drugs tests in Jedburgh last year.

India McLean, prosecuting, said the accused had bought the car that day but it was found not to be insured.

He was suspected of being under the influence but refused to cooperate with tests.

The fiscal said Scott started making threats to officers saying he would “kick their heads in if he sees them later on”.

He also urinated in a police cell.

Defence lawyer Ed Hulme said his client had bought the car late at night for a couple hundred pounds but it was not possible to insure it at that time of day and he drove it back to Jedburgh.

He denied being under the influence of anything but accepted he should have cooperated with police officers by providing samples.

In addition to the fines, Scott was banned from driving for 18 months.
