PATRICK Harrison is set to earn his first Scotland cap before the end of this summer’s Americas Tour.

The 22-year-old, who played for Peebles and attended the town’s high school, was not picked in the matchday squad for games against Canada and USA earlier this month.

Harrison, of West Linton, has been named among the replacements for Saturday’s clash with Chile.

And the final tour game against Uruguay a week later is outside the international window, so only Edinburgh and Glasgow Warriors players will be involved.

Speaking about Harrison ahead of the Chile match, Scotland head coach and fellow Borderer Gregor Townsend said: “He has been great, he really has. He has been one of the standout performers in training and he’s had to wait longer for his opportunity but he’s going to get it now.

“We’re keen for him to focus on what got him here which is accuracy around the set piece, work rate in defence, aggression and the skill and power he brings in attack.

“His number one asset is aggression. He wants to dominate collisions and we expect to see that this weekend.”

The Borderer impressed for Edinburgh A in Super Series matches earlier this year.

The hooker is Edinburgh Rugby’s youngest ever in that position.

He was one of 10 uncapped members of the original 37-man squad named for the tour.

Fellow Borderer Glen Young has been forced to withdraw from the squad after picking up a pectoral injury.

Robbie Smith, Elliot Millar Mills, Ross Thompson and Ross McCann have also left the tour.

Fin Richardson (Exeter Chiefs), Rob Carmichael (Edinburgh Rugby) and Ben Afshar (Glasgow Warriors) have joined the group as development players.
