A RETROSPECTIVE planning application for a shepherd’s hut on a Peeblesshire farm has been submitted to Scottish Borders Council.

The applicant told council officers he was unaware planning permission was required to replace an existing hut on land west of Winkstonhill Farm.

The original hut is believed to have been constructed in the late 1940s or early 1950s and was in use until approximately 2005 when the roof was badly damaged by a storm.

Work on rebuilding the cabin started in 2022 without planning approval being sought from the council.

A report with the application says: “The work started in late 2022 and was completed in early 2024.

“The applicant was unaware that planning permission would be required for the new cabin given that it was replacing an earlier shepherd’s hut.”
