A SCOTTISH Borders police chief is moving to pastures new, members of the region's council have been informed.

Chief Superintendent Catriona Paton has been appointed Assistant Chief Constable within Police Scotland.

She has been the Divisional Commander for Lothians and Scottish Borders since December 2021.

At a meeting of full Scottish Borders Council meeting on Thursday (June 27) convener Watson McAteer said: “I must inform you of a significant change in police leadership in the Borders.

“Chief Superintendent Catriona Paton is moving to pastures new, following being appointed Assistant Chief Constable within Police Scotland.

“Catriona has thoroughly enjoyed her time in J Division, which includes the Scottish Borders, her collaborative and informative style has been a key feature of her tenure and we have all benefited from her exceptional leadership.

“It is also fitting to congratulate her for being awarded the King’s Police Medal in the Birthday Honours.

“Until a new divisional commander is confirmed I am pleased to inform you that Superintendent Gregg Banks will be the acting divisional commander.”
