A COMMUNITY initiative is hoping to gauge local interest in a new multi-use centre.

The Cleland Site Initiative was set up by a dedicated team of locals who had identified the need for more community services on the south side of Peebles.

The team, including Susana Hoffman, Jennie Misak, Marc Halsam, Gemma Malby, Annette Giegle, and Anna Petrusevski.

A spokesperson foe the initiative said: "We have identified a significant need for community services on the south side of Peebles, particularly around the Play Park where facilities are notably lacking.

"Our initiative aims to develop a community hub that will cater to diverse needs.

"Proposed uses, as outlined in our business proposal, include a multi-use community centre offering recreational spaces, educational workshops, and social gathering spots.

"We are actively consulting with local organisations and the community to align our plans with the broader interests and needs of Peebles."

The group is running a survey to help inform how it proceeds with its development plans.

The site at Cleland Avenue backs on to the children's playpark at Victoria Park as well as the Greener Peebles Community Garden.

The 21-question survey invited Peebles residents to share their views on the site being developed into a café, community grocery store, shared work space, or a community hall.

But the survey also asks participants to share their ideas on how the space could be best utilised.
