REPORTS have been ordered into a 52-year-old man who stole a mobile phone from a Peebles shop.
John Mackie from Bonnyrigg pleaded guilty at Selkirk Sheriff Court to the offence which happened at Castle Warehouse on the morning of August 6.
Prosecutor Ruraidh Allison said a female employee had put her Samsung mobile down on a counter around 9am and was working between two departments.
At 11am she noticed it was not there so she reviewed CCTV footage and Mackie was spotted approaching the counter and grabbing the phone with his left hand.
Mr Allison said police were made aware of the theft of the £400 mobile and Mackie was traced.
A not guilty plea to a charge of theft by shoplifting was accepted by the Crown.
Sentence was deferred until July 8.
