A MAJOR Borders road is set to close at three locations next month, officials have announced.

Resurfacing works will be carried out on the A7 across 10 nights between June 10 and June 24.

The road will shut at Mosspaul from June 10-12 between 7pm and 6am, with a diversion route set up between Canonbie and Hawick.

Motorists will be diverted via the B7201, B6357, A6088 and A698, adding around 20 minutes to affected journeys.

The A7 north of Synton will be closed on June 13 between 7pm and 4am, with a diversion between Selkirk and Hawick to be in place.

Traffic will leave the A7 via the A698, A68 and A699, adding 21 minutes.

From June 17-24, the A7 from Glenmayne to Kingsknowe will shut, with a diversion signposted between Selkirk and the Kingsknowe roundabout.

Motorists will be diverted via the A6091, A68 and A699 which will add around three minutes.

No work will take place Saturday or Sunday.

Tommy Deans, BEAR Scotland’s south east network manager, said: “The surfacing improvements will help to address the defects on these sections of the A7 and will greatly enhance the driving experience for motorists.

“It is essential for safety that we close the road during these works, however we’ve arranged for the project to take place overnight to minimise the impact.

“We thank motorists and the local community in advance for their patience and understanding. We’ll do all we can to complete the work as quickly and safely as possible.”
