A 49-YEAR-OLD woman who set her property on fire has been placed on supervision for two years as part of a community payback order.
Louise Douglas pleaded guilty to wilfully setting fire to a flat at George Wynd, Eyemouth, on February 26, 2022.
She set fire to papers and soft furnishings and the fire took effect and rendered the premises unfit for habitation.
Defence lawyer Liam Alexander told Selkirk Sheriff Court his client had experienced mental health difficulties.
Sheriff Janys Scott pointed out Douglas had pleaded guilty to a very serious offence and it would be a failure of the court not to recognise this.
She rejected a recommendation for the accused to either be admonished or have sentence deferred.
