A BORDERS business has been recognised for its support of women artisans.

The Wee Souk, which moved to Galashiels earlier this year and promotes women creatives from Tweeddale to Tunisia, won the LUXLife Social Impact Award 2023 at a recent ceremony.

The Perfect Gift Awards from LUXLife were launched to recognise businesses dedicated to perfection.

On winning, Kimberley Davidson, owner of The Wee Souk, said: "It's amazing to be selected for this award acknowledging our very important work of creating opportunities for women's economic empowerment.

"Since opening the shop in Galashiels we've added the creations of 10 Scottish and English women makers in addition to over 21 women in Tunisia.

"To celebrate our win we're offering 15 per cent off this weekend (including sale items)."

Before setting up her award-winning business, Kimberley had previously worked in the non-profit sector and had travelled around the world – from Sweden to Tunisia – for her job.

It was during a year-long stay in the latter volunteering where she travelled the country and fell in love with its culture and traditions.

After her stay Kimberley wanted to do something to repay the kindness she had received in Tunisia, all while lifting up women who were creating beautiful products.

From here The Wee (women's economic empowerment) Souk was created.

Awards coordinator Jack Ford added: “I’m honoured to have connected with so many valuable trendsetters in their unique and enriching spheres.

"These excellent businesses, teams, and individuals offer us the chance to shower our loved ones with beautiful, lavish, and original gifts and experiences which help us to create memories to last forever.

"Congratulations on your recognition, it has been a pleasure!”

The Wee Souk can be found at 4 Channel Street, Galashiels.
