THE Education Scotland report on Greenlaw Primary School and Nursery Class published on 12 September has acknowledged a range of key strengths in the school’s work.

During their visit in June this year, inspectors talked to parents/carers and young people and worked closely with the headteacher and her staff.

Inspectors found children across the school and nursery to be happy, friendly and eager to share their learning.

They noted the teachers’ effective use of digital technology to personalise children’s learning, and that children enjoy these motivating learning experiences, which take account of their different strengths and needs.

And that regular celebrations of children’s achievements, are widely shared through social media across the whole school community, which is supporting the children to develop confidence and team building skills.

Two areas identified for improvement are currently being addressed:

Involving children in leading their own learning. They need more opportunities to make choices and decisions about their learning.

Senior leaders and staff should develop learning through play at the early level and beyond. This will enable staff to meet children’s needs better and allow children to apply their skills in real-life contexts.

Headteacher, Rosemary Berrett, said: “I am pleased that the report has highlighted the good practise and strengths that we have in place in our school and ELC. As a school we will continue to work together to deliver the best outcomes for our children, parent and carers and the Greenlaw community.

Greenlaw Parent Council Chair, Gina Davies, added: “As chair of our Parent Council, I am happy with the report that has been issued for Greenlaw Primary School and ELC. It is lovely to work with and support the staff in the school. I have every confidence the school will continue to make excellent progress as we move forwards”.

Inspectors are confident that the school has the capacity to continue to improve and will make no more visits in connection with this inspection.
