A CLACKS charity has received a massive boost in funding thanks to a generous donation from the Yorkshire Building Society Charitable Foundation.

Connect Alloa received the £1000 grant as part of the building society’s support of charities around the UK.

The charity, based in Alloa, was put forward for the funding after being nominated by Lauren Douglas, customer consultant at the society’s Alloa branch.

Dave Crozier, charity founder and project leader at Connect Alloa, said: “This donation has come at the perfect time as we are currently recruiting staff and volunteers.

“We also have mentors within our group who are always asking for further training to support their skills and enhance their CVs.

“Funding isn’t easy to come by at all, so we really appreciate Yorkshire Building Society Charitable Foundation’s investment in Alloa’s future.”

Connect Alloa is a youth charity which focuses on tackling and reducing social isolation and loneliness among young people in the Wee County.

The charity holds regular group sessions where people can play games, chat and get creative. The group is open to any young person aged between primary 7 age and 19 years old.

Yorkshire Building Society Charitable Foundation is funded through the Small Change, Big Difference scheme where members donate the pennies from the interest on their accounts just once a year to help smaller charities around the UK.

In 2022, the foundation passed the £9 million mark for donations to charities.

David Montgomery, branch manager at Yorkshire Building Society in Alloa, said: “We are delighted to be able to support Connect Alloa with a donation from Yorkshire Building Society Charitable Foundation.

“Connect Alloa’s work with young people in Clackmannanshire makes a huge difference in our community.”

This is the latest funding boost to head Connect Alloa’s way after they secured a huge £100,000 grant from the National Lottery’s Young Start Fund.

This, coupled with the Yorkshire Building Society donation, will ensure the charity’s services can run smoothly for the next three years.
