A CHARITY clothing bank in West Linton that raises money for The Fire Fighters Charity is the top performer for donations in Scotland.

The charity, which has more than 100 banks based at fire stations around the country, has collated figures for the past ten years since the project started.

It’s been revealed that the community in and around the Scottish Borders village has donated, since 2011, more than 58 tonnes of clothing - raising more than £16,000.

Area Commander Stephen Gourlay is the Local Senior Officer for Mid and East Lothian and Scottish Borders.

He said: “The Service is delighted to support the efforts of the charity which provides vital well-being services to firefighters.

“It’s fantastic that the West Linton community has been so generous over the years by filling up the banks with their unwanted items.

“We encourage people to keep donating, wherever they live, if their local fire station has a yellow bank outside.”

West Linton is closely followed by South Queensferry, who raised more than £15,000.

Scotland-wide, more than £493,000 has been raised for the charity over the past decade, as a result of more than 1,800 tonnes of unwanted items being dropped off.

The charity is thrilled and Kevin Biles, Sales & Recycling Manager, said: “We have an unbelievable level of support from the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service for clothes recycling.

“With over 100 fire stations with a clothing bank and many more stations interested this will just get better and better. On behalf of everyone at our charity, we thank you”.
