A BORDERS woman has won a 'prestigious' award at the Women in Financial Advice Awards.
Mary Hemingway, a Coldstream-based independent financial adviser with Truly Independent was given the Financial Adviser of the Year- Scotland and NI at a ceremony held in London on October 7.
The awards, in its fourth year, aims to promote financial advise as a career option for women – women make up around 14 per cent of financial advisers nationally.
Mary said: "Women don’t become financial advisers because it isn’t a visible profession to young people, most advisers I know fell into it by accident but with the average age of adviser now 57 there is a desperate need for more young people, women especially!”
Mary said that despite the coronavirus pandemic and being a new mum, she prides herself on her "strong entrepreneurial streak".
She added: "Financial Advice isn’t just for rich people!
"My clients are all normal, hardworking families in the Scottish Borders that value an easy to understand, honest approach to help plan their financial futures."
Mary, who is also one of the directors at Scottish Borders Chamber of Commerce, has previously won the Unbiased Financial Adviser of the Year 2020 award and the Prestige Financial Adviser of the Year in North England 2021 award.
