THIEVES are “currently active” across the Borders following three incidents. according to police.

On Monday (September 20), a red Suzuki quad bike was taken from a farm near Cranshaws overnight, say officers.

A red Honda ES500 quad was then stolen from a farm near West Linton overnight on Sunday (September 26).

Also on Sunday, thieves forced entry into a farm workshop near Bowden at 11pm but “appear to have been scared off as nothing has been taken”, according to police.

Police are also recommending farmers to leave keys away from quad bikes, install an alarm system where they are kept, install trackers and secure buildings where they are stored.

The spokesperson added: “Other recommendations include good quality LED Lighting; CCTV and signage; driveway and shed alarms; forensic security marking and signage; secure shed and barn doors with quality locks; park vehicles in front of shed doors at night; high quality chains and ground or wall anchors to secure quad bikes; trackers on vehicles; and Cesar vehicle marking.

“Also, please report any suspicious activity to us immediately via 101 or 999 if ongoing; including details of vehicles and persons involved.”
