MATERNITY and Gynaecology department are coming together to celebrate 25 years of Border babies being born at the Borders General Hospital.
In 1988, Her majesty Queen Elizabeth II opened the Borders General Hospital and with this began a new era for many of NHS Borders health care services and departments.
It followed the closure of the former Peel Hospital near Clovenfords.
Maternity and Gynaecology department was one of those departments to change and develop in the new surroundings of the Borders General Hospital.
A celebration held last month brought together past and present consultants and midwives. The event welcomed guest speakers from various Health Boards to present on subjects that included “The digital age and health care delivery” and “Fertility preservation, where do we stand?” Dr Brian Magowan, NHS Borders Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist said: “This celebration has brought together consultants and midwives who all have been involved in bringing Borderers into the world over the past 25 years.” He added: “Some of the babies born are now grown up and work for NHS Borders and I look forward to seeing second and third generations born at the BGH giving back to our Health Service.” Were you born at the Borders General Hospital in 1988? Were you a patient in 1988? We want to hear from you. Please contact bordershb@borders.scot.nhs.uk with your patient stories from 1988.
