FOOTBALLERS of all ages helped raise a whopping £500 at the weekend to help the West Linton Wasps reach the World Lego finals in America.
The primary school pupils from West Linton beat off stiff competition recently to win the Institution of Engineering and Technology’s FIRST® LEGO® League UK and Ireland final in London.
Part of their prize was a place in the World Championships in the USA.
Since their victory in February a fundraising campaign has been launched in the village to help send the ten-strong team from Tweeddale to St Louis.
And at the weekend the Hotspur Academy took on the club's veterans in a fundraising match.
Ivan McKenzie from Linton Hotspur said: "Our charity football match has been declared a huge success and preparations are underway to host the event next year.
"The match raised amazing £500 for the young robotics.
"The club would like to thank everybody that supported and played in the charity game. Thanks also goes The Gordon Arms Hotel for the post match hospitality."
Hotspur Academy were beaten 5-3 by the veterans.
