GARDENS hiding their beauty and not visible from the pavement are one focus of the Peebles in Bloom committee.

Members require the public’s help to identify those secret gardens.

A Peebles in Bloom spokesperson said: “Peebles Community Council needs your help with the Peebles in Bloom competition this summer.

“There are many beautiful gardens in Peebles, and we feel it is important to recognise all the hard work which goes into making this town such an attractive place to live in and to visit, so we’d hate to miss any.

“In July community councillors will walk all around the town looking at front gardens and business premises in order to produce a list of gardens and displays they feel are worthy of consideration (so don’t worry if you see someone studying your garden and making notes on a clipboard, it’s probably just one of us).

“There is a review to create a short list followed by a tour by independent judges who make the final decisions.

“The prize giving is in the Burgh Hall on August 15 and this year’s event promises to be quite different.

“We will be in touch shortly with last year’s winners in order to collect in the trophies.”

The Secret Gardens category is just one of ten categories.

The others are Very Small Garden, Small Garden, Medium Garden, Large Garden, All Year Round Garden, Business Premises, Courtyard Garden, Best Street and Community Garden.

There will be a trophy for the best Community Garden this year, as well as the usual certificate, thanks to the generosity of Garry Rennie of Peebles Auction House.
